A New Way of Housing

While politicians lie about lack of resources to help "those poor folks", the pandemic came along and disrupted that narrative. There was a solution all along; the incentive was lacking.

Foreclosed houses, vacant office buildings and abandoned hotels plus mass evictions, loss of jobs and financial crisis equals a problem with a ready solution. As one of the advocated stated the idea of turning hotels into housing had been talked about for years.

"Everyone always says I wish we could . . .and the pandemic provided us with an opportunity to go from I wish we could to we will." said Jason Elliott, who works for California Gov. Gavin Newsom on housing policy.

I have watched videos on YouTube of abandoned shopping malls with horror at all that wasted space. Well, hopefully not any more as repurposing comes to the rescue. Malls already have infrastructure, easement and parking. Developers are now seeing the potential for multi purpose use.

Put in a grocery store, post office, library and a community college branch you have a village under one roof that is walk able, safe, and protected from weather year round.
