Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself

I walk pass Ben in the studio and see a mask dangling from a branch.

    "What's this?" I ask.

    "It's a mask."

" I can see that why are you?-"

" Hey, I'm not taking any chances with humans these days, dangerous enough being a tree," he remarks with a harsh edge. Ben has a reoccurring nightmare of being cut down and used for lumber. Except he's useless bush.

I see Ben has fallen victim to the weirdness gripping the world today. Mother Nature is wrecking havoc on us physically and mentally.

"As I've said before, people are retreating to a place of fear, and usual, the media is playing that tune in heavy rotation," I say at last.

"Fear of what? Being healthy?" he snaps. he's not the only one tired of the anti vaccine, masking, conspiracy addled crowd.

Story time. In the 1980's an quadriplegic man successfully sued Georgia to put a kill switch on his ventilator. He didn't use it however.

" What he wanted was the option, to control his life on his terms. These people want the same kind of kill switch, as in the right to be afraid. When they are vaccinated they're safe, but feel oddly vulnerable. Some function better in a state of fear. "

"Ah yes, I saw this a lot in the loony bin. People refused their medication because it took away free will. A doctor tells them 'take this pill every day and your will be fine'. Months later they have a crisis because they choose the crap shot of fate the pill removed." He jumps in.

" When these fear driven go on about the poison vaccine, the government lies or having their freedom taken away by wearing a mask, I understand they are coming from a place of fear and if they want to take the risk, fine but I take issue when they put those they love at risk, without their consent." I say in weary resignation.

"And you can still get hit by a truck crossing the street. Or like the guy who thought he could outrun a train at a crossing and everyone in the car got killed," He does get it.

Ben is not a useless bush after all.
