Military Intelligence at Work

Despite the urgent need for service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan, The military is kicking people out simply for being gay- which has nothing to do with their ability to do their job. Admittedly straight men freak out at the idea of being near a gay man but 36% of those discharged are women even though they only make up 14% of troops. Why the disproportion? It’s simple. Gay women won’t put out and these narrow minded, all beef patties resent anyone they can’t fuck to prove how manly they are. Or maybe I’m just reading too much misogyny into it.

And the award goes to. . .

Since everyone is putting in their two cents worth of opinion about this I might as well too.

President Obama has received the Nobel Peace Prize-for what? I like the guy but he hasn’t done anything yet. He hasn’t even fulfilled any campaign promises. Well, that’s expecting a lot because politicians will say anything to get laid- I mean elected. That said I think you can see this as cynical politics or hopeful optimism. Andrew Sullivan said it best:

. . .this is premature and this is thoroughly deserved. Both are right. I don't think Americans fully absorbed the depths to which this country's reputation had sunk under the Cheney era. That's understandable. And so they also haven't fully absorbed the turn-around in the world's view of America that Obama and the American people have accomplished. Of course, this has yet to bear real fruit. But you can begin to see how it could; and I hope more see both the peaceful intentions and the steely resolve of this man to persevere.

This president has done a huge amount to bring race relations in this country to a different place, which is why the far right has become so vicious in attacking him and lying about him. They know he threatens their politics of division and rule. He has also directly addressed the Muslim world, telling some hard truths, and played a small role in evoking a similar movement of hope and change in Iran, and finally told the Israelis to stop cutting their nose off to spite their face.”

I think it’s interesting that a Nobel Prize went to the man who was beaten by George Bush -Al Gore and a Nobel prize is given to the man who replaced him. Until now the world has treated America like we are radioactive. This is at least an improvement. It would be remarkable if Obama accomplishes a fraction of the things he has set out to do.

Corporations vs. People

Check this out:

In yet another egregious case of the rights of a corporation over the rights of an indivual, I present KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton and a notorious Corp. on the greed train running full speed these days that doesn’t deserve any of our tax dollars at work.

Whatever you think of Al Franken, he did the right thing to stand up for a citizen’s constitutional right to seek justice. The men who voted against this amendment might have voted differently if it were their wife or daughter being gang raped and denied a chance to defend herself against her employer’s criminal neglience. It’s one thing to fuck the public, it’s another thing when you fuck your employees and try to get away with it.

You're not sick, you're just faking it

For those who think we don't need health care reform guess again.Oh yeah and don't get sick. If you are a convicted felon in prison or a federal employee then you get the best care available. All others pay through the nose.

The world is coming to an end in 2012. . . or not

The Aztec “long Count” is coming to the end of an age on December 12, 2012 (12/12/12 get it?) . It seems everyone from Edgar Cayce, Native Americans and Australian Aborigines have been saying for decades something big is going to happening in 2012. Oh my God, it’s the end of the world! It’s going to tilt on it’s axis, here comes drought, disease, world war!!!

OK everybody calm down. Before you panic, sell your house and run for the hills let’s put things in perspective here. Wasn’t this supposed to happen in 2000? Have you ever heard of a metaphor? All the prophets, soothsayers, sages and really smart future seeing people use them. They weren’t being to be coy or clever. They could only understand so much. The future can be fuzzy at times, not to mention subject to change without notice when you throw in human influence. Every prediction of the world coming to an end the next Friday the 13th in a leap year has come and gone.

We have a fondness for disaster- the more disastrous the better and we are deeply afraid of the unknown. We love to assume that all hell is going to break loose at once- just look at how it’s portrayed in movies. So it’s not surprising that prognostication is met with anxiety and special effects. This is another chance to yell the sky is falling.

What’s really happening here, spiritually speaking, is we are growing up and it’s been going on for more than 15 years. We’re changing our attitude toward each other and the world around us in a major way. Some have reacted to this spiritual growth spurt badly. The rise of fundamentalism is the equlivant of digging in one’s heels. An intrenched reaction to change. Whether it’s “The only way we can be saved is to turn to God as we literally interpet His laws” or “ Don’t be silly, there is no evidence of global warming being a long term trend”. There’s a lot of denial here.

There are physical changes going on connected to 2012.
“Scientists believe the Earth is overdue for a geomagnetic reversal, and has been for a long time, even since the time of the Mayans, because the last reversal was 780,000 years ago. Critics, however, claim geomagnetic reversals take up to 5,000 years to complete, and do not start on any particular date. There is major sunspot activity predicted or more precisely the solar maximum in the 11-year sunspot cycle is forecast to occur on or near December 12, 2012.” But obsessing on an arbitrary date taken from an ancient calendar is neither constructive or useful. Change comes slowly; our world is not going to magically change overnight or be destroyed instantly. There may be cosmic forces at work but it is up to humanity to adapt to those changes.

The age of adolescence is over. No more drunken frat parties, no more unbridled freedom from responsibility. No more wasting Mother (Natures) time, energy or resources. Time to grow up campers, whether we like it or not.
