You Were Warned

The saying  "Those who do not remember the past are forced to repeat it." seems familiar these days. Another pandemic has swept thru  and it's- oh don't worry, it won't happen here, we didn't prepare, then scramble to figure out what to do, or WHO to blame, or-and so it goes, history repeating itself. Governments  leaders tend to be more focused on politics, or the economy then dealing with disasters so they end up making poor choices when dealing with the fall out  because of politics. Some governments saw this coming and reacted properly because they were actually concerned for their citizens. Meanwhile our country acts like two cheapskates arguing  over the cost of an ambulance to haul off the victim bleeding to death.
It's a common human thing to forget the past, then be surprised when tragedy happens again. As the Japanese fled the rising waters of a tsunami, they passed a marker on a hill warning them not to build below that point. Unchecked pollution, spiraling population, exploitive economies, poor management leading to repeated wild fires, oil spills and environmental damage.

For the last 150 years humans have acted like spoiled children carelessly treating the world like a cheap toy, with no thought or concern for consequences. We forgot that the Earth is an organism and Mother Earth is pissed at our behavior and decided we are the parasite that needs to be tamed- not the other way around.

But like any trauma, there are lessons to be learned. We have cleaner air because of less traffic, we are discovering how important working people are, who despite the risk, deliver us food, gas, medical service, etc.

Despite the stupefying  incompetence from our government, citizens are donating their time and effort to help each other. People are sewing  or 3D printing protective masks, delivering meals to out of school children and elderly or keeping us entertained on line.
Personally I have decided to regard quarantine as forced time off. Think of it as a crude "staycation" or a cross between "Groundhog Day" and  Halloween, the holiday or the horror film- your choice.
I remember reading an account about Edgar Cayce doing a life reading for a couple who were pleased to know they were good folk back in Atlantis but died in it's late catastrophe. "How is that possible if we were righteous?" "You were warned" was the stark reply.

Let this be a reminder things will never be the same, remember this lesson or we will be sorry-again.
