The Future is Now

Back in 1970 a sci fi movie Colossus: The Forbin Project predicted a future where a super computer runs the world freeing us from our aggression until the Russians get their own version of Colossus so the humans have to sneak around without the machine knowing and well, you get see where that's going.

The technology in the film seems antique and clunky but the hardware was actually pretty close. The message however, is all too relevant given the advances in AI and algorithms used to run everything from your car to communication satellites. If you think it's all harmless, we now bomb people with drones flown by remote control and one company mounted a machine gun on a robot. Don't even get me started on how the internet is tearing society apart.

    Smart does not equate wise.

Pandora's Box

The 3D printer has great potential but as with any new technology it begs the question: what is the worse and best thing that can happen with this? So we have a chance to save a life or the chance to create chaos.

Basically it's the replicator seen on Star Trek, in it's infant stage that has the potenial to revolutionize manufacturing but it's still a long way from making a cup of Earl Grey Tea-hot.
